Families considering Singapore should assess personal safety, scams, the journey to school, access to healthcare and the conditions of their home. A reassuring national reputation does not remove the need to check the arrangements that affect your own family.
This guide uses official evidence and practical questions to help with that assessment. Safety is a reason to consider where you live; it is not a guarantee of immigration approval.
SPF’s summary of physical crime in 2025 reports 20,857 cases, up from 19,969 in 2024. It identifies outrage of modesty and theft in dwellings among continuing concerns. These are annual case counts, not a prediction of the risk at a particular address.
SPF’s Annual Scam and Cybercrime Brief 2025 reports 37,308 scam cases and about S$913.1 million in scam losses. Physical crime and scam statistics cover different categories. Check the reference period and definition before comparing figures or interpreting a ranking.
Global safety indices can use different methods and reporting years. They should not support a blanket statement that families never need to worry, that crime is absent or that every school has lower bullying than schools elsewhere.
Independent travel should be based on the child’s readiness and the actual route, rather than a general claim that young children can travel alone safely everywhere.
Discuss suspicious payment requests, impersonation, account access and online purchases with children and adults. Verify a message through the organisation’s genuine contact channel before following instructions or transferring funds. A familiar name or professional-looking website is not proof of legitimacy.
Use SPF’s current advisories when assessing an unfamiliar request. Include digital safety in the family routine instead of treating physical security as the whole picture.
Identify nearby healthcare options, emergency arrangements and what your insurance or employer cover actually includes. Availability and charges vary; medical help should not be described as always being a few minutes away.
Ask schools about learning support, counselling, reporting routes and how concerns are handled. Admission, fees and support depend on the child’s circumstances and the institution. Read our family education planning guide.
Compare the cost-of-living planning guide with your quotations. PR and citizenship have separate eligibility and responsibilities, and the status of one parent does not automatically change every family member’s status.
Use our family sponsorship guide for the relevant categories. School enrolment, community participation or saying that you value safety should not be presented as a published approval formula.
Review the home, school, commute, healthcare arrangements, recurring costs and each person’s permission to stay. Keep a practical alternative if a school or immigration application takes longer or is unsuccessful. No location or status removes all personal, financial or family risk.
See TIP’s PR application support or contact TIP to discuss the immigration assistance available for your circumstances. ICA decides the outcome; assistance cannot guarantee approval.
