Singapore Citizenship IPA: e-Journey and Next Steps

Received your Singapore citizenship in-principle approval (IPA)? Read the conditions and deadlines in your ICA letter first. IPA is not the final grant of citizenship: you must fulfil the required conditions. This guide explains the Singapore Citizenship Journey (SCJ), its e-Journey component and how to organise your next steps.

Your citizenship IPA checklist

1. Read your letter and record the deadline and any individual instructions.
2. Check whether you must complete the Singapore Citizenship Journey.
3. Access the official portal and complete the components assigned to you.
4. Keep completion records and follow ICA’s subsequent instructions for citizenship formalities.
5. Contact the relevant official help channel promptly if access, bookings or deadlines are unclear.

Do not use a PR IPA guide to determine a citizenship deadline. Follow your citizenship letter and portal instructions rather than assuming every applicant has the same time available.

Who needs to complete the Citizenship Journey?

ICA’s citizenship guidance states that citizenship applicants aged 16 to 60 must complete SCJ. Check the instructions issued for your application, including any situation requiring clarification.

e-Journey is one component, not the whole programme

The official Singapore Journey help page lists three components:

• e-Journey: online learning about Singapore and citizenship.
• Singapore Experiential Visit or Introduction to Service to Community: the applicable experiential component.
• Community Sharing Session: engagement with residents and community volunteers.

Follow the options and booking instructions shown in your account. Completing the online course alone should not be assumed to complete all SCJ requirements.

Accessing the portal

Log in through Singapore Journey using Singpass. The official help page says participants required to complete SCJ can log in three working days after the IPA letter is issued. If you remain unable to log in, or are ineligible for Singpass, use the help channel provided there.

Keep your application reference and letter available when seeking assistance. Avoid sending identity documents or account details to unofficial contacts.

What the e-Journey covers

The public e-Journey course introduces shared values, citizens’ responsibilities, society and daily life, arts and culture, history, national symbols and institutions, and Singapore’s future. Use the course and portal requirements shown to you, including any knowledge checks.

Set aside uninterrupted time, read the material carefully and check your recorded progress before leaving the session. An estimated course duration should not replace the deadline in your letter.

After completing the required components

Check your completion status and official messages. The Singapore Journey help page distinguishes the optional post-programme survey from the programme itself. Questions about IPA validity, final approval, citizenship registration and the citizenship ceremony should go to ICA through the official channels.

Keep your next steps organised

Maintain a simple record of each required task, its deadline and completion confirmation. Resolve access or scheduling problems early; a request for help should not be treated as an automatic extension.
