What is the Singapore e-Journey?

After receiving the Citizenship IPA letter, the first required step to complete is the Singapore e-Journey.

The e-Journey, as per its name, is a mandatory online programme designed to help citizens understand Singapore.

Why Virtual Learning?

The programme is fully virtual, offering a straightforward, accessible way to understand Singapore’s history, politics, geography, and shared values. You can do it at your own pace from home without the need to attend any physical classes or seminars.

Getting Started: Technical Requirements

Before starting, do ensure that your browser is up-to-date, and any pop-up blockers are disabled to avoid disruptions.

How to Access the e-Journey

To begin, head over to the official portal at (www.sgjourney.gov.sg). Keep in mind that every applicant between the ages of 16 and 60 must complete this entire process individually.

You will log in using your Singpass and if you do not have an active account yet, do account for the 2 to 5 working days it currently takes for registration and approval [1]. Once you are logged in, your unique application ID will automatically populate the screen. From there, simply enter your In-Principle Approval (IPA) date, select your preferred salutation, indicate your English proficiency, and double-check that your pre-filled contact details (current address, mobile number, and email) are accurate.

Before you dive into the core content, you will fill out a brief, elementary survey. It is a quick introduction that helps customize and personalize the digital experience for your specific background.

The Seven Chapters of the e-Journey

For 2026, the e-Journey has been expanded and now consists of seven chapters and a final survey, taking approximately 2.5 hours to complete [2]. Together with the Singapore Experiential Tour (SET) and the Community Sharing Sessions (CSS), all components must be completed within your IPA validity periodr (typically 60 days) [3], so it is important to start early.

Here is a spoiler-free overview of the themes you will encounter:

  • Overcoming the Odds: The opening chapters illustrate how Singapore triumphed over its early historical vulnerabilities to transform into the thriving global hub it is today. Fortuitously, the system automatically saves your progress, so you can easily step away and return whenever you like.

  • Systems and Symbols: Subsequent modules dive into the foundational pillars of the nation, covering national symbols, governance structures, the education and healthcare systems, and the realities of daily life.

  • The Social Fabric: The programme details local multicultural practices, daily social norms, and the overarching Singaporean value system. If you have already lived here for a few years, much of this might feel familiar, but it serves as a wonderful way to finally “connect the dots.”

  • Total Defence: The journey concludes with a look into national security. Rather than just focusing on military might, it explores concepts like Economic and Psychological Defence—a fascinating look into how an entire society stays resilient.

Final Survey and Progress Tracking

The experience wraps up with a general feedback survey designed to help the developers refine the e-Journey for future applicants. Once submitted, your main dashboard will update to show your completed status alongside a real-time countdown of the days you have left to finish your remaining citizenship formalities. With those deadlines looming, it is best to keep the momentum going!

What Comes Next?

So what is next?

Stay tuned for our upcoming guides on these events; the process only gets more engaging from here.

Your Path to Singapore Citizenship

The journey after receiving your IPA letter goes beyond completing formalities, it is about understanding Singapore’s values, and integrating into its community. The e-Journey, SET, and CSS are designed not as bureaucratic hurdles, but as meaningful opportunities to deepen this connection.

Remember, you have approximately 60 days to complete these formalities, so it is important to start early and pace yourself. Fortunately, the process is structured for convenience, allowing you to progress at your own pace.
